REIKO “LAKO” FLEMING, 80, of Humboldt, IL passed away at 6:49 P.M. on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at her residence.
Funeral Services was held at 10:30 A.M. on Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church, 654 County Road 1320 North in rural Sullivan, IL just West and South of Cooks Mills. IL. Rev. Jim Maroon officiated. Burial was in the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 24, 2011 at the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church. The Edwards Funeral Home assisted with arrangements.
Lako was born on February 20, 1931 in Japan. She married Charles William Fleming Jr. on July 21, 1958 in California.
She is survived by her husband Charles William Fleming Jr. of Humboldt, IL, four Children, Carolyn Goostree and her husband Marshal of Salem, IL, William H. Anderson and his wife Debbie of Woodstock, GA, Regina Still and her husband Ron of Arcola, IL and Arthur L. Fleming and his wife Karon of Pawnee, IL, and a special daughter, Shiho Gimbel and her husband Kurt of Urbana, IL; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Lako became a U.S. Citizen in November of 1961. She was a very skilled seamstress, owned, and operated her own shop called Lako’s Draperies in Mattoon, IL. Her ability was not limited to draperies; she could sew anything. She was also a good cook and could throw a feast together at the drop of a hat.
She was a very loving wife and mother. She enjoyed fishing and spending time with her family and friends.
Lako gave her life to Christ and was a member of the Mt. Zion General Baptist Church in rural Sullivan, IL for many years.
Memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital, Mt. Zion General Baptist Church or Hospice.
