ROBERT G. “Bob” HUDSON, 83, of Arcola, IL passed away at 11:40 P.M. Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 3, 2012 at the Walnut Grove Christian Church 13462 E. CR. 1700 N., Arcola, IL. Rev. Brandon Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Mattoon, IL. Visitation will be from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. on Monday, January 2, 2011 at the Edwards Funeral Home 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL.
Robert was born October 10, 1928 in Charleston, IL. He was a son of Roy Franklin and Lula (Blunk) Hudson. He married Frances L. Bumpus on October 12, 1947 at Walnut Grove Christian Church in rural Arcola, IL.
Survivors include his wife Frances of Arcola, IL; five children, Susan Foster of Arcola, IL, Dan Hudson and his wife Becky of Marengo, IL, Nancy Boyer and her husband David of Arcola, IL, Carol Nelson and her husband Dean of Charleston, IL and LuAnne Fleener and her husband Clinton of Richmond, VA; thirteen grandchildren Noel Hutton and his wife Lisa of Sitka, AK, Earl Hutton and his wife Julie of Arcola, IL, Fred Hudson of Charleston, IL, Elizabeth Jakobsson and her husband Garret of Arcola, IL, Amanda Kishel and her husband Mark of Muncie, IN, Joe Hudson and his wife Monica of St. Mary’s, OH, George Hudson and his wife Hayley of Carbondale, IL, Christina Huckleberry of Arcola, IL, Shawn Seaman and his wife Christa of Fayetteville, NC, Rachel Beever and her husband Shane of Hindsboro, IL, Kermit Boyer and his wife Natalie of Charleston, IL, Stephanie Hoshauer of Humboldt, IL and Hannah Crnkovich and her husband Matt of Windsor, IL; 23 great-grandchildren; one brother Bill Hudson and his wife Jean of Charleston, IL; three sisters Armilda Bielejec of Lewiston, ID, Frances Stout and her husband Dale of Albuquerque, NM and Linda Swinford and her husband Noel of Charleston, IL, one sister-in-law LeeAnn Curry of Greenup, IL and several nieces and nephews.
His parents, two sons-in-law, Duane Duzan and Bud Foster, one brother Roy Lee Hudson and one sister Anita Shippy preceded him in death.
Bob was a farmer, farming with Earl Bumpus until 1965 and then continuing on his own in Coles County until his retirement in 1992.
Bob was a member of the Walnut Grove Christian Church where he served as a deacon and was the first Chairman to head up the mission department at the church. He was very devoted as a husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He enjoyed gardening, motorcycles and was involved in 4-H projects with his children and grandchildren. He served as a volunteer in the Coles County Sheriff’s Neighborhood Watch program.
Bob embraced and welcomed into his home numerous individuals over the years including exchange students and troubled youth.
Over the years Bob enjoyed raising animals including guineys, peacocks, quail, chickens, geese, bantams, wild ducks, turkeys, pigmy goats, six toed cats and farm animals.
Memorials may be made to the Mission Team at Walnut Grove Christian Church.
