Ruth Marie Sims

Ruth Marie Sims, 98, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Amber Glen Special Care Center in Urbana, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tuscola, IL. Rev. Jason Braaten will officiate. Burial will follow in the Young America Cemetery in Hume, IL. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Ruth was born on May 1, 1926, in Bondville, IL, a daughter of Elmer Marion and Julia H. (Hasemeier) Eakin of Bondville, IL. She married Frank Gerald Arbuckle on June 26, 1943, he passed away on June 7, 1974, she later married Harry Sims on May 3, 1975, he passed away on September 24, 2004.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Colleen Arbuckle of Sonoita, AZ, three grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Frank Arbuckle and Harry Sims, a daughter, Judith Marie Cox, a son, Russell Dean Arbuckle, and a brother, John Eakin.

Ruth was a member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tuscola, IL, where she served with Ladies Aid and the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League. She was also a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 770, Zion Home Extension, Bondville Senior Citizens, and the Urbana Senior Citizens. She retired from Quantum Chemical Corporation, formerly USI where she worked as a secretary for many years.

She spent the winters in San Bonita, TX. There she attended and was actively involved at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She also volunteered at Valley Baptist Hospital.
