SARAH CHRISTY GILLILAND, 35, of Chamblee, GA formerly of Arcola, IL passed away at 3:12 A.M. on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at the Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 17, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Arcola, IL. Father John Titus will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, August 16 and from 11:00 A.M. to 12:00 P.M on Saturday, August 17 at the Edwards Funeral Home in Arcola.

Sarah was born on December 5, 1977 in Tuscola, IL. She was a daughter of Harold Charles and Florencia (Delmo) (Sarona) Gilliland.

She is survived by her parents, Chuck and Flory Gilliland of the Philippines, formerly of Arcola, IL; one brother, Ron Gilliland and his wife Nicole of Fishers, IN; one sister Chonna Perry and her husband Dale of Crittenden, KY; a niece Ashlan Perry and three nephews, Maxwell Gilliland, Keegan, and Caden Perry; grandmother, Anita Gilliland of Arcola, IL and several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, Harold Gilliland; paternal grandmother, Iva Mae Raymond and her husband Marion Earl Raymond; maternal grandparents, Modesta Delmo Sarona and Sulficio Sarona and aunts, Eugenia Mae Crites and Kimberly Shirley.

Sarah was a 1996 graduate of Arcola High School. In 1999, she graduated from Parkland College in Champaign, IL with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Development.

Upon graduation from Parkland, Sarah accepted a position working at Parkland College as a teacher in the Child Development Center. In 2005, she followed her dreams to explore our Country and moved to Phoenix, AZ. While in Phoenix, she was a manager at Majerle’s Sports Grill. In the summer of 2010, she followed her heart again and moved to live by her cousin in Atlanta, GA. In Atlanta, she became a manager at The Bat and Ball Pub. Everywhere she lived, Sarah lived life to its fullest and made numerous friends that became part of her family.

Sarah enjoyed cooking and photography. She had a gift of capturing memories with family and friends. She also loved to watch and attend sporting events. She was a fan of the Phoenix Suns, Atlanta Falcons and an extremely loyal Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed traveling for the holidays, entertaining and spending time with her family and friends. She especially loved spending time with her niece and nephews. Sarah was also an avid pet lover and cared for two cats of her own, Miri and Macy Gray.

Those that knew her loved her passion for life, her giving heart and her beautiful smile.
