Scottie Barnett

Scottie Michael Barnett, 20 of Arthur, was taken from us on Sunday morning, December 30, 2012 at 1:34 a.m. at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center, Mattoon.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 5, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Church of Atwood, 210 North Main Street in Atwood. Pastor Mike Drake will officiate. Visitation will be from Noon until service time on Saturday, January 5, 2013 at the United Church of Atwood. Burial will be in Mackville Cemetery, Atwood. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Scottie was born January 9, 1992, in Urbana, to Kimberly Barnett.

Scottie is survived by his parents, Kimberly and Gary Gee of Hammond; special grandmother Linda Barnett of Atwood and grandfather Lyle Gee of Hammond; Aunts Connie Lovellette and husband Bryan of Clinton, IN and Karen Eads and husband Danny of Atwood; Uncles Max Barnett II and wife Sonja of Nashville, TN and David Barnett of Atwood; special Great Aunts Irene McMullen and Nadine Taylor of Arthur and Marjorie Black of Rantoul; Great Uncle Eugene Taylor of Atwood, and lots of cousins and his girlfriend Jesika Fultz.

He was preceded in death by his special grandfather Max Barnett and special grandmother Carolyn Gee and Great-Grandparents Wanda and Herb Carr.

Scottie was baptized and Confirmed in Christ in 2004 at the United Church of Atwood, where he was a member.

Scottie was a graduate of Atwood-Hammond High School Class of 2010. He attended Parkland College for one semester. He lived in Arthur and worked at the R & I Restaurant. He really enjoyed being with his Great Aunts every day and doing whatever he could for them, and visiting with the customers.

Scottie enjoyed hunting and fishing with his dad, Gary. He shot a nine point buck when he was 17. He went fishing as often as he could with his buddies. He went with friends to St. Louis Cardinals baseball games and was so happy when he got see the Red Hot Chili Peppers in concert in Memphis, TN. He loved going out to eat, watching movies, playing video games, listening to music, reading, and hanging out with his friends.

Scottie was such a special son and grandson. He was his mom’s, world and light of her life. He would brighten up a room with his smile and his hugs warmed your heart. He touched so many lives in his short 20 year life. We will never know what great things he was to accomplish. To all who knew him, we are better for it.
