Scotty Myron Shonkwiler, 66, of Arcola, IL passed away at 3:12 PM on Monday, April 7, 2025 at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 11, 2025 at the First Christian Church, 311 East Main St., Arcola, IL. Rev. Brent Budd will officiate. Burial will follow in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM Thursday, April 10, 2025 at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Scotty was born on June 30, 1958 in Tuscola, IL. He was a son of Myron W. and Kay (Gamble) Shonkwiler. He married Melanie Ann Bray on December 2, 1977 in Arcola, IL. She passed away on March 5, 2003.
He is survived by three children, Jeremy Shonkwiler and his wife Stacy of Arcola, IL, Courtney Shonkwiler and her fiancé Chris Klapperich of Arcola, IL, and Dr. Ryan Shonkwiler DMD and his wife Blanca of Sullivan, IL, his mother, Kay Shonkwiler of Arcola, IL, eight grandchildren, Brock and Braden Shonkwiler, Lola, Madilyn, Oliver and Ozcar Shonkwiler, and Carter and Lanie Klapperich, one sister, Cindy Arthur and her husband Bart of Galesburg, IL and one brother, Rick Shonkwiler and his wife Janice of Arcola, IL.
He was preceded in death by his father, Myron Shonkwiler and his wife, Melanie Shonkwiler.
Scotty was a 1976 graduate of Arcola High School. During high school he played football, achieving an impressive 99-yard touchdown run as a tailback. He also enjoyed playing basketball, running track and was a pole vaulter. Scotty also was crowned King of his High School Senior Prom.
After High School he went on to attend Lakeland College. He then went to work at Calderwood which is now Vesuvius in Charleston, IL. From there he joined his father in the seed corn business, Whisnand Hybrids, and Shonkwiler Farms, working alongside his dad, Myron, his brother, Rick, son, Jeremy, nephew, Lucas, and grandson, Brock, until he retired in June of 2023.
Scotty had a passion for life and loved being around his family and friends. He loved riding his Harley. He was an avid fan of the Arcola Purple Riders, Illini Sports, and the Chicago Cubs. Scotty enjoyed shooting and collecting guns, reading and enjoying music.
Memorials may be made to the Arcola Public Library.
