SIMON SCHROCK, 82, of Arthur, IL passed away at 3:35 P.M. on Wednesday, July 29, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Decatur, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 2, 2009 at the Arthur Mennonite Church, 710 East Park, in Arthur, IL. Rev. Glen Rhodes will officiate. Burial will be in the Arthur Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the Church. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting Simon’s family with funeral arrangements.
Simon was born on October 20, 1926 in Arthur, IL. He was a son of Yost J. and Tillie M. (Miller) Schrock . He married Marie Yutzy on October 22, 1949 in Arthur, IL.
Survivors include his wife Marie Schrock of Arthur; two children, Sandra Stevens and husband Jim of Long Creek and Michael Schrock and wife Gloria of Millersburg, IN; two brothers, Yost Schrock Jr. and wife Ella of Sarasota, FL and Levi Schrock and wife Norma of Elkhart, IN; three sisters, Rachel Yoder and Alma Schrock both of Arthur and Anna Miller and husband Wilmer of Elkhart, IN; seven grandchildren, Melissa, James Jr. and Cynthia Stevens, Allison McCollum and husband Justin, Adrian Schrock and wife Nichole, Conrad Schrock and wife Jenna and Morgan Miller and husband Charlie and three great-grandchildren; Calli Stevens, Jackson Schrock and Avenlea Schrock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Raymond Y. Schrock and three sisters, Lizzie Ann Helmuth, Gertie Beachey and Hilda Yoder.
Simon was a member of the Arthur Mennonite Church where he taught Sunday School and served as Sunday School Superintendent.
He served in the Civil Public Service from 1944 to 1945.
He worked at Progress Industries, Casket Division of Arthur, IL for over 25 years, he worked as a custodian for the Arthur High School, the Arthur Casket Company and most recently for Carstin Brands of Arthur, IL.
He enjoyed reading, repairing sewing machines, watching Illinois basketball and Cardinal baseball. Simon took a great amount of joy in spending time with his family and friends, particularly his grandchildren.
