THENA ROLLINGS, 87, of Arcola, IL passed away at 2:12 A.M. on Tuesday, February 10, 2009 at the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Home in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, February 13, 2009 at the Walnut Grove Christian Church, 12930 East County Road 1700 North in Arcola, IL. Rev. Brandon Hatfield will officiate. Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church. The Edwards Funeral Home is assisting Thena’s family with funeral arrangements.
Thena was born on April 24, 1921 in Agricola, GA she was a daughter of Frank and Bessie (Cummins) Walden. She married William Lloyd Rollings on January 2, 1945 in Marion, AK. He passed away on July 11, 1997.
She is survived by one son Larry Rollings and his wife Linda of Champaign, IL; one daughter, Julie Ashworth and her husband Ben of Arcola, IL; four granddaughters, Tiffany Gruber and her husband James of Libertyville, IL, Vanessa (Becky) Giannis and her husband James of Chicago, IL, Molly Rollings of Champaign, IL and Brenna Walters of Arcola, IL and two great-grandsons, Riley James Gruber and J.D. Giannis II.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one granddaughter, Caitlin Michaela Walters, two brothers and three sisters.
Thena was an active member of Walnut Grove Christian Church in Arcola, IL and the Order of the Eastern Star in Tuscola, IL.
Thena graduated from the Baptist Memorial Hospital School of Nursing as a Registered Nurse in Memphis, TN in 1944. She had worked as the plant nurse for USI in Tuscola, IL, as well as for Dr. G.A. Jones in Arthur, IL and for Dr. J.V. Fishel in Arcola, IL. She was the Arcola School nurse for several years and had worked at the Arcola Nursing Home.
Thena served as a Republican Election Judge and donated time to local blood drives. She enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, canning and working with houseplants.
Thena was very proud of her family, she especially enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters.
Memorials may be made to the Walnut Grove Christian Church or the Arcola Public Library.
