VELMA (HILLIGOSS) BLACK, 90, of Mattoon, IL passed away at 8:13 A.M. on Friday, December 02, 2011 at Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center in Mattoon, IL.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Edwards Funeral Home 221 E. Main St., Arcola, IL. Rev. Vince Rohn will officiate. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the funeral home.
Velma was born May 9, 1921 in Humboldt, IL. She was a daughter of John and Nancy (Farrell) McNary. She married Louie Hilligoss on December 16, 1940, he passed away on December 27, 1972. She later married Donald R. Black on May
22, 1977, he passed away on April 4, 1994.
Survivors include two sons, John R. Hilligoss and his wife Mary of Decatur, IL and Rex A. Hilligoss and his wife Barbara of Mattoon, IL; one daughter, Paula R. Jennings of Mattoon, IL; one sister Rachel Ackman of Elgin, IL; two step-sons, Carter Black and his wife Pat of Arlington Heights, IL and Brent Black and his wife Robin of Sullivan, IL; 12 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren and 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Velma is preceded in death by her husbands, Louie and Don, one daughter, Saundra (Hilligoss) Davis, one brother, Robert McNary and one sister, Annabelle Watkins.
Velma was a member of the Arcola United Methodist Church and she was a life member of the Arcola VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, reading and spending time with her family.
