VIRGINIA CARPENTER, 79 of Charleston, IL formerly of Humboldt, IL passed away at 3:08 P.M. on Saturday, February 25, 2012 at Hilltop Convalescent Center in Charleston, IL.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main, in Arcola, IL. Rev. Joe Diener and Rev. Walter Truex will officiate. Burial will be in the Humboldt Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, February 28, 2012 at the funeral home.

Virginia was born on September 11, 1932 in Hutton Township, IL she was a daughter of Palmer Mac and Grace Mae (Carson) Etnire. She married Max L. Carpenter on August 19, 1949 in Corinth, MS. He passed away on October 27, 2005.

She is survived by two sons, Darrell Carpenter and his wife Teresa of Arcola, IL and Bill Carpenter and his wife Terri of Carlinville, IL; three grandchildren, Jason Carpenter and his wife Janice of Effingham, IL, Matthew Carpenter and his wife Heather of Humboldt, IL and Hannah Carpenter of Carbondale, IL; two great-grandchildren, Jada Carpenter and Logan Crist; two brothers, Gene Etnire and his wife Carolyn and Darry Etnire and his wife Joyce all of Charleston and two sisters, Wanda McNary and her husband Richard and Marjorie Conley all of Charleston, IL.

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Max, and one brother-in-law Dave Conley.

Virginia was an officer of Ladies of the Moose in Charleston, IL and the Odd Fellow-Rebekah Lodge in Humboldt, IL.

She enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society for Lung Cancer research.
