WILLIAM MARTIN “MARTY” BENARD, 55, of Arthur, IL passed away at 8:15 P.M. Friday, July 4, 2008 at his residence in Arthur, IL.
Marty was born on May 20, 1953 in Tuscola, IL. He was a son of George Logan “Pat” and Sara Lou (Ashley) Benard.
He is survived by his daughter, Aubrey Marie Benard and his mother, Sara Lou Benard both of Arthur, IL; one uncle William Jacob Benard of Dongola, IL, several nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
He is preceded in death by his dad, two brothers, Michael Dean Benard and Terry Lee Benard; grandparents, George and Cora Bernard and Lowell and Ruth Ashley and a special aunt Mary Rita Hunter.
Marty is a 1971 graduate of Arthur High School. He attended Lake Land College in Mattoon, IL where he studied Radio and Television Broadcasting. He was an Account Supervisor for Masterbrand Cabinets of Arthur, IL for twenty years. He was a DJ for twenty years. He had owned and operated Captain’s Quarters in Arthur, IL. He had served as master of ceremonies for the Moultrie-Douglas County Fair. He had been member of the Arthur Volunteer Fire department for ten years. He was a member of the Moose in Tuscola, IL and a member of the Vine Street Christian Church in Arthur, IL.
Marty enjoyed playing cards, cooking, telling jokes and music; he is a former member of the rock and roll band “Backstage Boogie”. He especially enjoyed spending time with his mother, his daughter and his friends.
