William Closson

WILLIAM H. CLOSSON, 84, of Arcola, IL passed away at 1:39 A.M. on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at his residence.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, May 19, 2018 at the Edwards Funeral Home, 221 East Main in Arcola, IL.   Dennis Cunningham will officiate.   Burial will be in the Arcola Cemetery.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral from 12:00 P.M. (Noon) to 1:00 P.M. on Saturday at the funeral home.

William was born on June 18, 1933 in Cumberland County, IL.   He was a son of Raymond Rex and Opal Eloise (Scales) Closson.  He married Sandra Huckstep on July 31, 1962 in Newman, IL.

He is survived by his wife Sandra of Arcola, IL, 5 children, Janice Cunningham and her husband Dennis of Mattoon, IL, William H. Closson II of Arcola, IL, Terry Hardwick and her husband Rick of Tuscola, IL, Gary Edwards of Arcola, IL and Lorrie Hawk of Makanda, IL; 24 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren; 2 brothers, Jim Closson and his wife Barbara and Ervin Closson and his wife Janet and 3 sisters, Pam Tharp and her husband Robert, Cassie Hall and Ann Closson.

He was preceded in death his parents, 2 daughters, Barbara Jean Snyder and Mary Jane Oakley,1 grandson, Owen Cunningham, 1 great-grandson, Caleb Hardwick, and 2 sisters, Aline Closson and Hazel Closson .

William was a retired Navy Veteran of the Korean and the Vietnam Wars.

He worked as a truck driver for several years then taxied Amish for several years.

William enjoyed reading and watching the St. Louis Cardinals.
